DESCRIPTION:As photographers we love light\, but sometimes you have to work with a little less light\, especially when your activity starts at 20:00 and it’s still only the 14th of February. Since night will still fall quite early\, we are doing a long exposure activity! You can of course place your camera on a tripod and be done with it\, but there are many different ways to gather all the light we crave in these dark times. Long exposure for example is a great way to capture movement in a still image. Have you tried for example zooming in or out\, defocussing\, panning\, tilting or rotating you camera while taking a picture? We encourage you to unleash your creativity during this activity where we will go out together to take some amazing\, experimental and fun pictures!

SUMMARY:OCW: Modern take on paintings (Public)
DESCRIPTION:Paintings\, we have all seen so many of them. Museums are filled with portrets ranging from hundreds of years ago to modern abstract pieces. When looking at the older pieces\, a lot can still be translated to our modern day society. It will of course look at little difference but messages from the painters rarely fade over time. This is your chance to transform this message to something which appeals to modern day society! Taking inspiration from old paintings and making new art with them is something we will do on the Monday of the Open Culture Week. This can be remaking a painting with costumes\, photoshopping yourself into a frame or incorporating modern items into old painting using photoshop\, as can be seen from picture above. For this activity you only need to bring a camera\, a creative mindset and maybe a little photoshop here and there\, see you on Monday!

Macro photography/videography is making detailed pictures/videos of tiny things. The big challenges of macro photography are often the shallow frame and objects that move a tiny bit too much. Luckily\, there are plenty of ways to work around this or to take these challenges and experiment with them! DESCRIPTION:We hope a lot of great pictures will be taken during the OCW activities\, but to make them even greater\, today we are going to teach and learn the basics of photo editing. This evening a workshop in Lightroom will be given by Levi Baruch. Lightroom is a program that lets you edit your photos. You will learn the basics (filtering\, the meaning of sliders\, contrast\, exporting\, shooting raw) and the thinking process of editing overall. It can be interesting for intermediate levels as well! This activity will help you understand the fundamental things of editing photos and gives you the chance to create your own style of editing\, which can make your photos even more unique\, creative and beautiful!

DESCRIPTION:This activity is all about street photography! Although the name is somewhat misleading in a way\, because we’re not going to take pictures of the pavement but of things on the street. \nStreet photography is easy to pick up\, yet sometimes hard to execute. However\, very interesting for beginning photographers and the masters of the craft. \nIf you are somewhat shy to talk to strangers\, this is the workshop for you! \nIn this workshop Alesander Aydin will go through all the do’s and don’ts and tips and tricks before going through the streets of Eindhoven centrum to take our own pictures. We will split up in small groups so that everyone can perform this exercise (with at least every group one camera. If you have your own camera bring it with you! Smartphones are not really suitable for this activity\, but it is possible). The focus lays on: getting over the fear of using a camera on the street and communicating with strangers\, using your camera quickly\, being creative\, some camera settings\, and lots of “just do it”!

DESCRIPTION:The Tuesday of the OCW will be in theme of a fan favourite: steel wool spinning! By lighting a wad of steel wool on fire we will make sparks fly like stars through the sky. Then by taking long exposures\, we can create beautiful creative shots like the one above. Don’t be afraid if you are not familiar with long exposure shots! This activity is perfect to learn how to work with long exposure. Lastly\, we also might have an extra surprise for you which will be breath taking! 😉

DESCRIPTION:The summer holiday is coming and to already get some summer vibes\, this month the ‘Schatje in Turkije’ activity (means babe in Turkey) will take place. During the activity we will practice on how to make the best holiday pictures with a little cringe twist to it. The activity will take place in the studio where we will make photos with a greenscreen\, so you can edit them so they can turn out as beautiful as in the examples. If you don’t have experience with photoshop this is also the perfect opportunity to learn a little more on how to use this program. Next to the ‘Schatje in Turkije’ photos you can of course use the greenscreen\, some summer props and your creativity to create really cool and funny summer related pictures. Next to making pictures this activity is also meant just to socialize and have a nice drink. Hopefully we will see you on the 21st!

DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday evening on the 31st of May we plan to head out again for some landscape photography. Together we will go to the heather and take some pictures as the sun sets. We will meet at the university at 20:00 sharp and take the bike to our destination\, which is the “Stratumse Heide.” Be sure to be on time because the sun will not wait on us to go down! Hopefully the weather will be in our favour so we can capture some beautiful images\, but it could be that we have to organise a different activity. We will keep track of the forecasts and let you know if anything changes.

SUMMARY:Time/Hyperlapse Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On the 5th of April we will gather in front of the Luna building for this activity. We will set out together to create time- and hyperlapses in Eindhoven. Timelapses are made by viewing the film frames of your video at a faster rate than what they were recorded at. Hyperlapses work with the same principle\, only then the camera is moved between each frame. Many cameras have a feature built in that allows you to record timelapse videos\, but you can always take separate pictures yourself and combine them in post. \n👉️ SIGN UP HERE
